In Language Arts we are working on our next unit, Our Neighborhood at Work. The children are learning about jobs in our community. We will read both informational/nonfiction and fiction stories as well as poems that pertain to this theme.
In phonics they are learning about long vowel sounds a, i, o and u, the –le syllable, the /s/ sound made by the letter combinations of ci and ce and the /j/ sound made by the letter combinations of gi and ge. The decodable books incorporate all the phonics skills they are learning in class.
We are working on retelling the decodable books to strengthen comprehension skills. We are learning how to use a variety of comprehension skills to comprehend stories such as, identifying the main idea and details, visualizing, making connections, clarifying, classify and categorize, asking questions and summarizing.
They are learning about different types of sentences such as, exclamatory and imperative. We will review adjectives and introduce adjectives that compare.
In Math, we will build on our addition and subtraction skills. We will work on fact families.
Thank you for coming to the parent-teacher conferences. I enjoyed meeting with you and sharing information pertaining to your child. Please feel free to contact me at any time with any concerns.
